A Heartwarming Rescue of a Lost German Shepherd

One day in Los Angeles, California, a driver was exiting the highway when they noticed something unusual — a pair of pointy black ears poking out from the bushes near the exit ramp. At first glance, they thought it might be a coyote, a common sight in California. But when the animal lifted her head, it became clear she wasn’t a wild creature at all.

A black German shepherd mix, with sad eyes full of despair, stared back at the passing cars. She had been living there for weeks, ignored by most drivers speeding by. But this time, someone decided to take action. The driver quickly shared her location on social media, and soon a group of local dog lovers sprang into action.

“Everyone came out trying to get her,” wrote Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, on Facebook.

Unfortunately, the dog, already on edge, got spooked by the sudden attention and darted away from the exit ramp — her first time leaving in weeks. The next day, news broke of a severe accident on the highway, leaving the rescuers fearing the worst.

“There was a bad accident on the freeway, and we were terrified that she had been hit,” Hall shared. “Or worse, that she had ended up in the wrong hands. The exits were shut down for days.”

Hall kept in touch with local residents, hoping the pup would return to her spot. Days later, her phone buzzed with the message she’d been waiting for.

“She’s back,” the message read, sending Hall into a flurry of motion. “I raced up there.”

When Hall arrived at the exit ramp, she found the shepherd curled up in her usual place. With cars speeding by, Hall knew she had to act quickly, but carefully. She couldn’t risk scaring the dog away again.

“It was so dangerous, both for her and for me,” Hall explained. “I had to dodge cars to set up my trap. My heart was pounding — one wrong move, and it could all go terribly wrong.”

Hall set the trap and retreated to wait. When she returned, she was overjoyed to see the trap had worked.

“She was safe in the trap,” Hall wrote, her emotions flooding in. “I literally cried.”

Hall gently loaded the dog into her car and rushed her to Camino Pet Hospital for a checkup. On the drive there, Hall decided on the perfect name for this brave, resilient dog: Miracle.

“She’s a miracle, there’s no other way to put it,” Hall said. “She’s still scared of the world, but we’ll help her learn to trust again.”

After a clean bill of health, Miracle went home with her foster mom, Jeanette, where she could finally relax, far from the dangers of the highway. Though she’s still looking for a forever home, Miracle is happier than ever, with her past worries left far behind.

“The fast cars and endless noise are behind her,” Hall wrote. “The lonely nights and fear are now just a memory. Tonight, she’s safe, sleeping in peace with her foster mom.”
