Working from home has its perks, but let's be honest—it can get pretty lonely. That was exactly the case for Mauro Tutzo, who spent his days working solo in his apartment. When he noticed a new couple moving into the flat next door, he was genuinely excited at the prospect of having some friendly faces just across the shared balcony. But before Mauro could even introduce himself to his new human neighbors, a far more impatient visitor decided to make the first move.
“Today I found out they also have a dog,” Mauro shared with a grin in a TikTok video. “Want to know how I found out? He climbed over onto my balcony.”
An Unexpected (and Highly Demanding) New Friend
Mauro certainly didn’t expect to look up from his desk and see a handsome black-and-tan pup peering intently through his sliding glass door. The dog stood there, staring with absolute determination, waiting for the door to open. As it turned out, this curious pup had just hit the ultimate neighborhood jackpot.
“Luckily, he came to the right place, because I sell pet supplies,” Mauro laughed. Talk about perfect timing! Mauro's home office was essentially a playground filled with the latest and greatest dog toys, treats, and enrichment gear. Naturally, Mauro welcomed his furry guest inside to explore the ultimate treasure trove.
The Beginning of a Beautiful (and Spoiled) Friendship
To break the ice, Mauro filled an enrichment toy with a delicious, squeezable treat and set it down. The pup didn't hesitate for a second, happily licking every last drop. Once snack time was over, the sweet dog made himself right at home, spending the next few hours napping on the floor and playing with various toys without a care in the world.
When the dog's owners returned later that afternoon, Mauro finally introduced himself and escorted his new buddy back home. That's when he learned the dog's name was Never. Never's parents explained that he had free reign of the balcony during the day while they worked, but he wasn't a big fan of flying solo.
“Honestly, he's the neediest dog ever,” Mauro joked. “He wants attention all the time, and if you stop petting him, he gets annoyed.”
Daily Spa Treatments and Toy Testing
Never's need for affection was music to Mauro's ears. He loved the company, and he was absolutely thrilled when his new sidekick showed up again the very next day.
“I woke up around noon, and he was already standing at the sliding glass door waiting for me,” Mauro said.
This time, Mauro decided to let Never test out a steam brush. While not exactly a toy, Mauro had a feeling the pampering-loving pup would adore it. He was 100% right. Never leaned right into the brush, closing his eyes in pure bliss. “He's basically getting a little spa day with the steam,” Mauro laughed. “Oh, wow... he likes it. Alright, I'll keep going.”
After his luxury spa session, Never enjoyed another peaceful afternoon nap before hopping back over the balcony divider when his owners got home. By day three, it was officially a routine. The moment Mauro opened his blinds, there was Never, his tail wagging like crazy in anticipation of the day's new activity.
For their third playdate, Mauro introduced a specialized toothbrush toy designed to clean teeth and fight tartar as the dog chews. Never happily took to his new dental chore, gnawing away contentedly.
An Unbreakable Bond
What started as a funny, random visit quickly blossomed into a daily ritual that both Mauro and Never cherished. They became inseparable—so much so that when Never's family went out of town for just two days, Mauro was utterly heartbroken.
“I hadn't seen him for about two days... It was so sad,” Mauro admitted. “Two days of absolute depression. The building felt empty.”
Thankfully, the separation didn't last long. As soon as the family returned, the two best friends picked up right where they left off. While Mauro always misses his buddy when the sun goes down, he is incredibly happy that Never has such a loving, attentive home to return to each evening.
“As soon as the dog hears his owner, he immediately heads back to his own balcony,” Mauro said. “You can tell how well-behaved, loving, and well cared for the dog is.”
