Hidden deep among trees and bushes in Cleveland, Ohio, a young pittie named Cora was tied to a fence and abandoned. From the road, she was almost invisible — blending into the woods so completely that no one noticed her for days. For three long days, Cora sat there, hungry, lonely, and waiting for someone to come.
Finally, a passerby heard her cries and called for help. Melina Russo, an animal control officer, rushed to the scene. What she found broke her heart: a skinny, frightened pup who somehow still had the brightest smile.
“I just took a few steps toward her, started talking baby talk, and she instantly got real wiggly, super happy,” Russo recalled in a video for The Dodo. “That’s when I knew I could approach her.”
Cora wagged her tail nonstop as Russo untied her and walked her to the truck, as if she knew her nightmare was finally over. At the shelter, staff discovered she wasn’t microchipped, but that didn’t stop them from showering her with love. Cora soaked up every hug and cuddle, grateful just to be noticed after being left behind.
“She clearly just wanted to be around people,” Russo said. “It broke our hearts thinking about her tied to that fence, waiting and waiting.” 💔
Two weeks later, Cora’s luck finally turned. A family walked into the shelter, and the moment they met her, they knew.
“I just knew she was ours,” said Erin, Cora’s new mom.
Now, Cora is thriving in her forever home — playing, cuddling, and showing off her goofy personality every single day. For a pup who was once invisible, she has become the very heart of a family who can’t imagine life without her.
