Rescuers, accustomed to seeing animals in poor condition, were still shocked by Henry’s state. The tumor, so massive it rested on his right front leg, made every step an ordeal, compounding his difficulty in finding food and shelter.
Yet, despite his suffering, Henry’s spirit remained unbroken. He greeted everyone with a wagging tail and a heart full of love, showering those who came near him with slobbery kisses.
Determined to give Henry a fighting chance, Schomburg worked tirelessly to secure funding for his surgery. Grants and donations poured in, and soon Henry underwent the life-saving operation. The tumor, though enormous, had thankfully not spread.

He now weighed a healthy 78 pounds and could walk freely for the first time in what must have felt like forever. He moved into a loving foster home through the Newport Beach Animal Shelter, where he experienced joy, comfort, and the love he had been denied for so long.
