Just two days ago on Greenspot Road in Highland, California, Jeff, a local resident, was walking his dog when he noticed a heartbreaking sight—a small black dog, matted and filthy, with large bald patches along her sides and hindquarters. She had wandered out into the busy road, oblivious to the blaring horns and swerving cars narrowly missing her.
Jeff acted quickly, weaving through traffic to gently guide the stray back to the sidewalk. But as she moved, she stumbled into a fence. It was clear that the poor dog was blind. She looked as if she had been abandoned recently; in her condition, she wouldn’t have lasted long on her own.
Wearing an old collar but with no identification or microchip, this little one had no one. So, Jeff picked her up and carried her a mile back home, promising her a better life.
Animal advocate and rescuer Faith Easdale soon responded to Jeff’s call for help. Faith took the dog, who they named Poochini, to a partner animal hospital for immediate care. There, the team assessed her condition: her eyes were painfully ulcerated and infected, she was covered in fleas and ticks, and both ears were heavily infected. It was clear she’d endured unimaginable pain and hardship.
But now, Poochini has hope. She’s still at the hospital, and though her eyes show a lingering sadness, her condition is already improving. Faith shared that Poochini is now receiving medicated baths, her eyes have been gently cleaned, and she’s scheduled to see an ophthalmologist. Her ear infections are being treated, and she’s on medication to ease her pain.
Thanks to a kind stranger and a dedicated rescuer, Poochini is finally receiving the care and love she deserves, with a brighter future ahead.
