Brinley's Journey from Abandonment to Love

Under the scorching autumn sun of Los Angeles last week, dog rescuer Suzette Hall received a distressing message from a concerned Good Samaritan. The message described a lone pup, abandoned outside an empty warehouse, completely exposed to the blistering heat.

“[She was] tied up in an industrial area, left to bake in the sun…” Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, wrote on Facebook. At the time, Hall was transporting another dog and was more than an hour away from the pup. The picture of the small, scruffy dog tied to a staircase, fur matted and body slumped, haunted her. Time was running out.

Desperate to save the pup, Hall called several friends nearby. To her relief, one of them, Mary Nakiso, jumped into action. “Thank God for Mary Nakiso,” Hall wrote. “She had just finished work and rushed over immediately.”

Arriving at the industrial area, Mary found herself surrounded by rows of deserted warehouses and offices. Not knowing exactly where the pup was, she started searching the buildings one by one. At first, she found nothing, but then she spotted the familiar staircase from the picture.

“She saw the stairs, but the pup wasn’t there,” Hall explained. “We were on the phone when, suddenly, Mary shouted, ‘I found her!’”

The pup was no longer at the staircase. Someone had moved her and tied her to a nearby fence. She had spent the entire day without water, trembling from both the heat and fear.

The poor dog, later named Brinley, had been through a nightmare. Though she couldn’t explain how she ended up there, the moment she saw Mary, her tail wagged weakly in gratitude. It was as if Brinley had been waiting all day, hoping for a miracle.

Mary’s timely arrival saved Brinley from the worst of the sun’s wrath. Shortly after, Hall arrived and whisked Brinley away to Camino Pet Hospital, where the pup was given a thorough check-up and a much-needed grooming session.

A week has passed since Brinley’s rescue, and the sweet girl is finally starting to recover. She now resides in a loving foster home, where she alternates between cozy naps and basking in her caregiver’s affection.

“She’s still a little withdrawn,” Hall shared, “but with an incredible foster who treats her like a princess, Brinley is finally experiencing what love feels like.”
