Dogs are known for their loyalty, and the story of Kermie, an 11-year-old dog battling cancer, is a perfect example of this incredible bond.
Kermie had been struggling with her diagnosis for some time when her owner, Eric Ralston, was away for eight months. During this period, Kermie’s health started to deteriorate, and her family didn’t expect her to last until Eric’s return. Jennifer, Eric’s wife, shared on their YouTube channel that they had come to terms with the fact that Kermie might not make it to see Eric again.
Unfortunately, just twelve days before Eric’s scheduled return, the family received devastating news—the process had been delayed, and Eric would not be home for Christmas. Jennifer expressed her heartbreak, knowing that Kermie likely wouldn’t hold on much longer.
Against all odds, Kermie managed to hang on, waiting for her beloved dad. When Eric finally arrived, something extraordinary happened. Jennifer described it as “kind of a magic pill.” Kermie, who had been refusing food and water, suddenly perked up. She began eating and drinking again, showing signs of renewed energy. Her love for Eric was so powerful that she found the strength to live for a little longer.
Kermie made it to her twelfth birthday in January, but sadly, the cancer took its toll. She passed away in late February 2013, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering devotion.
Eric’s reunion with Kermie was a miraculous moment, captured on camera by their family. It’s a touching reminder of the deep, unconditional love that exists between humans and their furry companions. The emotional reunion speaks volumes about the bond between them and the lengths to which animals will go for the ones they love.
