To their astonishment, there were five kittens—barely a week old—snuggled together and seemingly abandoned. The team quickly paused their work, their hearts full of concern for the vulnerable family, and carefully scooped up the kittens to rush them to a nearby vet. The vet, in turn, contacted the RSPCA for immediate assistance.
“It’s terrifying to think about what might have happened to these fragile kittens if they hadn’t been found by the refuse collectors,” said Leanna Hone, an inspector with the RSPCA, in a press release.
Fortunately, the little ones were unharmed and soon found themselves under the loving care of the RSPCA’s Hampshire and Surrey Border Branch. The dedicated rescuers named the kittens Morel, Magpie, Molly, Penny, and Saffron.
“All the kittens are thriving, and their eyes are starting to open,” Hone shared. “They received some much-needed nourishment and a gentle cleanup before being taken to our local branch, where they are now with a wonderful cat fosterer.”
Meanwhile, the RSPCA is investigating how the kittens ended up in the bin and is appealing to the public for any information.
“The homeowner was horrified to learn that these kittens were placed in their bin outside,” Hone added.
For now, the focus is on the kittens, who are safe and growing stronger each day. Everyone involved is relieved and grateful for the second chance these adorable furballs have been given.
