Meet Grace, a gentle senior dog who teaches us that true love transcends the limits of sight.
A few years back, 12-year-old Grace was diagnosed with a painful eye condition that ultimately led to her losing her vision. After consulting with her veterinarian, it was decided that the best course of action was to remove both of Grace's eyes to keep her comfortable and pain-free.
“Although it was a tough decision, we knew it was for the best,” shared Shelby Salmela, Grace’s devoted mom.
Even without her sight, Grace never lost her way when it came to following her heart. While she has always adored Shelby, she shares a unique bond with Shelby's mother—her beloved grandma. This connection remained unbreakable after her surgery.
Before her vision loss, Grace would joyfully dash into Grandma’s arms, and that enthusiasm didn’t fade after the operation. Each time Grandma visits, Grace's excitement is palpable.
“It’s heartwarming to see how thrilled Grace gets when she realizes her GG is at the door,” Shelby said.
Grace’s reaction to her grandma’s warm embrace is a beautiful reminder that, although her world may appear dark, it’s filled with the radiant light of love.
Despite her lack of sight, Grace’s capacity to love remains unwavering. In fact, the distance between her and her grandma only strengthens the bond they share.
“Three years ago, Grace’s grandma moved out of state, so we only get to see her about six times a year,” Shelby explained. “But Grace is incredibly attached to her. We FaceTime daily, and whenever she hears my mom’s voice during those calls, she gets so excited.”
Through it all, Grace’s heart continues to shine brightly, reminding us that love knows no boundaries.
