As a dedicated full-time dog rescuer, Suzette Hall has seen her share of heartbreaking cases. Most often, she rescues dogs found wandering the streets of Los Angeles, California. But one weekend, she encountered a dog who hadn’t been able to roam — even if he’d wanted to.

This poor pup had been left tied to a pole in a quiet residential neighborhood, stranded on the sidewalk with no way to escape. Scared and utterly confused, the helpless dog watched as countless people passed by, ignoring his plight.

"He was there all night, tied to that pole," Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, shared on Facebook. "It’s unbelievable how many people just walked by and did nothing."

During that long night, a pack of coyotes roamed the area. Despite his small size and being tethered in place, the brave little pup managed to fend them off. Against the odds, he survived the night, alone and vulnerable.

When Hall arrived on the scene, she was immediately struck by the dog's strength and sweetness. Despite everything, he remained gentle and calm, quietly enduring his ordeal.

“What a sweet baby — he did nothing to deserve this,” Hall wrote. “I promised him we’d figure it all out.”

True to her word, Hall gently untied his leash, scooped him into her arms, and carried him to her van. She named him Piñata, a nod to his tough spirit. As they drove away, Piñata, sensing he was finally safe, curled up and fell into a peaceful sleep for the first time in who knows how long.

“The best part,” Hall shared, “was when he realized everything would be OK. He just fell asleep on the way to the vet.”

At Camino Pet Hospital, Piñata was given a thorough check-up and passed with flying colors. After a warm bath and some much-needed rest, he was placed in a loving foster home, where he quickly began to flourish.

Piñata, full of gratitude and joy, is thriving in his foster environment, showering his caregivers with love and kindness.

“He is so sweet and gentle,” Hall told The Dodo.

Soon, Piñata will be ready for adoption, hoping to find the perfect family to call his own. Until then, he’s enjoying every moment in foster care, grateful for his second chance at life.

“He is beyond grateful to be rescued,” Hall said. “Just look at his smiles now.”
