Last Friday at South Gate Park in California, a local resident witnessed a van pull up, and heartbreakingly, three small dogs were abandoned and left to fend for themselves. Sadly, this park has become a common spot for people to leave pets, and this time, three terrified pups—two females and one male—were left behind, huddling close to survive.
The trio stuck together, watching out for one another. Terrified and skittish, they hid in the bushes at any sign of movement, whether it was a person, animal, or even a bird. Their days were spent cautiously venturing out to search for food, only to dart back into hiding, seeking refuge in their makeshift den.
Rescuer Rosario Ortiz soon reached out to Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, to help save the trio. Suzette and Rosario tried coaxing the dogs out, but the pups were too fearful, running deeper into the brush each time. Unwilling to give up, the rescuers set up traps and baby gates to try to bring them to safety.
Hunger eventually led one of the pups—a little male, the apparent leader of the pack—into the safety of a baby gate trap. Yet, as he was captured, his two friends seemed distressed, worried for their companion. The brave little male, drawn by food and determination, showed his friends it was safe. Seeing her friend trapped, the smallest dog was desperate to reunite with him.
Suzette moved another trap closer to the bushes. After some hesitation, the tiny dog could no longer stand being separated from her friend and finally stepped into the trap.
With all three finally together, Suzette couldn’t wait to bring them back to safety. These tiny, inseparable friends, who had weathered three cold, frightening nights in the bushes, were now secure. Reunited in the safety of a single trap, they curled up close and fell asleep, understanding at last that they were rescued.
Now, these brave little souls have a bright future ahead. Safe and together, they can look forward to long, happy lives.
