Rescuer Faith Easdale rarely gets a break, and Thursday morning was no exception. Just the night before, she’d been helping another rescuer catch a stray dog darting dangerously along a freeway. Then, late Wednesday evening, she received an urgent message about a tiny dog seen in the Seneca Springs area of Beaumont, California. This area, with its endless fields and hills, is prime territory for predators like mountain lions and coyotes—not exactly a safe place for a five-pound dog to be running for her life. Remarkably, the little dog had managed to survive out there for over four days, as reported by the person who’d first spotted her.
Determined to beat the odds, Faith set out to find the pup. The dog was nowhere in sight, and though the sinking feeling of discouragement set in, Faith refused to give up. She stayed vigilant, and early Thursday morning, luck was on her side—she spotted the tiny dog.
“I was on a mission,” Faith recalled, “I wasn’t letting her out of my sight.”
Corey, another rescuer, quickly sent over a cheeseburger, courtesy of Jennifer Brown. Faith knew the poor girl was likely starving, having gone at least four days without food, possibly even longer.
The little dog was terrified—every passing car seemed to send her into a panic. Who could blame her? In a world so big, she was so incredibly small. Faith spent hours carefully following her, patiently waiting for the right moment. Finally, the little dog paused long enough for Faith to set a humane trap nearby, with the tempting aroma of the cheeseburger inside. The pup couldn’t resist. Starving and exhausted, she finally let her guard down and was safely caught, ready to begin her journey to a new life.
