It’s been a year since Smiley and Sephora entered this world—unwanted and rejected from the very start. For over 365 days, these two sweet siblings have waited for the home, the family, and the happiness they’ve longed for since birth. But despite their hopeful eyes and wagging tails, they’re still waiting.
Two littermates, a brother and sister, remain in the shelter, patiently wondering how much longer it will be until they can celebrate their next birthday with a loving family. Shelter workers do everything they can to make Smiley and Sephora feel loved, but nothing quite compares to the warmth of a real home and a devoted “hoomom” or “hoodad.”
A Brother and Sister’s Journey
Smiley and Sephora are currently at All Humane Animal Rescue in Wanaque, New Jersey, where they’ve grown accustomed to the shelter life. But they shouldn’t have to wait much longer. These two dogs deserve a forever home where they can finally feel the love they’ve been missing.
Their story began in tragedy. The two pups, along with their siblings, were born into a home filled with neglect. When the shelter rescued them, they were just four months old. Two of their littermates were adopted soon after, but Smiley and Sephora were left behind. Time passed, and these Australian Cattle Dog siblings began to settle into the shelter as their temporary home.
The shelter staff worked tirelessly to turn these once-feral pups into loving companions. Over time, Smiley and Sephora transformed into wonderful dogs with unique personalities.
Two Opposites, Yet Perfect Together
Sephora, a gentle and slightly timid girl, has grown up to be a sweet Cattle Dog. While she’s friendly, she’s a bit nervous around men and requires some patience to truly shine. Her perfect home would likely include another dog to help her feel comfortable, especially a brotherly figure like Smiley.
Smiley, on the other hand, is Sephora’s opposite. He’s full of energy and charm, always ready to entertain with his goofy antics. He’s a lovable, playful pup who instantly wins over hearts. Together, these two siblings form the perfect balance—a yin and yang that brings out the best in each other.
Despite their differences in personality, Smiley and Sephora are happiest when they’re together. Their bond is strong, and their love for each other is undeniable.
Smiley Finds a Home, but Sephora Waits
Just as winter approached, good news came to All Humane Animal Rescue: Smiley was getting adopted! The joyful pup couldn’t believe it—someone finally wanted him as their companion. However, Smiley’s excitement was bittersweet when he realized the truth—he was being adopted without Sephora. His sister, his lifelong partner in crime, would remain behind.
Though he found his forever home, Smiley had to leave Sephora, and the separation left her heartbroken. Her first birthday was a sorrowful one, spent without her brother by her side. Once again, she found herself alone, waiting for her own special day when a family would choose her.
Sephora’s Turn for Happiness
Smiley’s journey to a loving home was a success, but now it’s Sephora’s turn. She’s been waiting too long at the shelter, and it’s time for her to find the family who will love and care for her as much as she deserves. There was once a potential adopter, but sadly, it fell through, and no one knows why.
Sephora deserves a chance—a chance to blow out birthday candles, open doggy presents, and enjoy a special birthday cake made just for her. Every shelter dog does. Let’s hope Sephora doesn’t have to celebrate her next birthday alone.
