The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is excited to share some great news about Ryder, the adorable puppy found abandoned last month. On Friday, May 3, Harold Dean Lilly was booked into Butler County Jail, facing charges for cruelty to a companion animal and abandoning animals.

On April 24, a concerned citizen discovered Ryder, just three months old, tied up in a drawstring bag at a park on Joe Nuxhall Boulevard in Hamilton. This compassionate individual quickly brought the frightened puppy to safety. Ryder was then taken in by Animal Friends Humane Society, where he received the medical care and love he desperately needed.

Today, Ryder is a far cry from the lethargic and weak puppy found in that bag. He’s now alert, curious, and enjoying his meals with enthusiasm! His recovery is well underway, and he’s proving to be a playful and affectionate little guy.

The community's response to Ryder’s plight was overwhelming. Social media posts by Animal Friends and the Sheriff’s Office drew significant attention, leading to a wave of support and tips. Thanks to this collective effort, Ryder is on the mend, having tested negative for parvo and received all necessary vaccinations and deworming.

As Ryder continues to thrive at Animal Friends, he’s capturing hearts with his resilient spirit and playful nature. The shelter staff are dedicated to finding him the perfect forever home and are thrilled by the outpouring of interest from potential adopters.

Ryder’s journey highlights the power of community and the importance of responsible pet ownership. We extend our gratitude to the Sheriff’s Office, Animal Friends Humane Society, and everyone who contributed to Ryder’s recovery. Stay tuned for updates on Ryder’s adoption journey, and consider giving a loving home to an animal in need.

Harold Dean Lilly, who faces charges related to Ryder’s mistreatment, is currently awaiting his court appearance in Hamilton Municipal Court.
