In late August, a concerned motorist called the Canton Police Dispatch Center in Stark County, Ohio, to report a cat trapped on a busy highway.
“There’s a cat on the cement median that appears to be alive,” the caller informed the dispatcher.
Eager to assist, the police department quickly sent Trooper Justin Smith to the scene. As he pulled over on the highway, Smith feared he might be too late.
“I thought the cat was either severely injured or dead based on its position, lying flat on the asphalt,” Smith told "loveanimalsclub". “I expected the worst and was relieved it didn’t run into traffic.”
Approaching the animal cautiously, Smith said, “Hey, bud,” extending his hand so the cat could sniff and get familiar with him. He then wrapped the frightened cat in a neon safety vest and gently picked him up.
“It’s OK,” Smith reassured as he cradled the anxious feline and quickly placed him in the back seat of his car.

The kitten was taken to the Stark County Veterinary Emergency Clinic, where veterinarians ensured he was healthy and provided him with food and water.
Once cleared by the vets, the cat moved to the Stark County Humane Society. Within weeks, he found his forever family. Embracing his new dad, the cat looked safe and content.
“Rescued from the highway by the Ohio State Patrol, he has now found a loving forever home!” the Stark County Humane Society shared in a Facebook post.
