In Davidson County, Tennessee, a loyal pit bull named Arlo is being hailed a hero after saving his owner, Haley McCormack, from a deadly encounter with a venomous snake.
Haley was walking toward her porch when danger silently lurked nearby. Hidden in a crevice by the steps was a copperhead snake, poised to strike. Unaware of the threat, Haley was only moments away from being bitten—until Arlo leapt into action.
Without hesitation, Arlo sprang forward, grabbed the snake by the tail, and violently shook it to keep it from reaching Haley. In the process, the brave dog was bitten three or four times in the face. Despite the pain, Arlo’s quick thinking and selfless act prevented what could have been a serious injury—or worse—for his owner.
Arlo was rushed to BluePearl Pet Hospital in Nashville, where he received anti-venom treatment, pain medication, and CBD oil to ease his suffering. His face and neck were severely swollen, but thanks to the swift medical response, he's expected to make a full recovery.
Haley, still shaken by the incident, shared her gratitude in an interview with WTVF: “It’s incredibly moving to realize just how much love and loyalty he has for me—to risk his own life to protect mine. We’re so lucky to have each other.”
Unfortunately, Arlo wasn’t the only victim that day. BluePearl Pet Hospital reported treating several snake bites recently, with over a dozen cases already this summer alone.
