Sinead, a dog who had clearly just given birth, was left in agony after being struck by a car. For two long days, she sat motionless by the side of the road, crying in pain, unable to move her back legs. Though people passed by, no one stopped to offer help.
A group of dedicated volunteers finally came to her rescue, transporting her to a local shelter where they discovered she was likely paralyzed or had a broken leg. Despite her trauma, Sinead remained a gentle soul, desperately searching for her missing puppies, but none could be found.
The volunteers scoured the area, hoping to locate her puppies, but there was no sign of them. Concerned about her condition, they took Sinead to the Animal Health Center for x-rays, hoping to determine the full extent of her injuries. The results were both hopeful and heartbreaking: while she didn’t have fractures in her limbs or pelvis, Sinead had suffered a spinal injury that affected the nerves in her back legs.
Although she had trouble with bladder control, Sinead was able to relieve herself and showed signs of improvement. The vet recommended laser therapy, which they began administering in hopes it would aid her recovery. Over the next week, Sinead received daily treatments, along with IV therapy and nutritional support to help her regain strength.
As the days passed, Sinead showed positive progress. She began eating and drinking on her own and even had regular bowel movements. After several laser treatments, there was a noticeable improvement in her muscle and bone growth. Though her spine remains misaligned, the vet remains hopeful that with continued treatment, her condition will continue to improve.
A month later, Sinead’s condition has stabilized, but it’s still uncertain whether she will ever regain full use of her back legs. Despite the challenges ahead, her caretakers are determined to help her recover as much as possible. Sinead’s journey is far from over, but with ongoing care and love, she has a chance at a better life.
We hope she finds the loving home she deserves and continues to make progress on her road to recovery.
