Thin to the point of being skeletal, her bones visible beneath her emaciated skin, Nina had clearly been neglected for far too long. Her eyes were in a dire state, infected and covered with calluses. At first, it was assumed that Nina was infertile, but it soon became clear that she had been exploited to produce multiple litters of puppies, only to be abandoned when she became ill.
When ThisisHouston, an animal rescue group, stepped in to help, they rushed Nina to the vet where, due to the severe damage, both of her eyes had to be removed. The transformation from that moment onward was remarkable. Despite her physical pain, Nina’s spirit remained strong, and she began to show signs of life again.
