While driving down a quiet road in Texas, a man noticed something unusual—two tiny heads peeking out from behind a fallen tree. Concerned, he quickly texted his daughter, Lenny, a huge dog lover, to let her know about the abandoned pups he had stumbled upon.
The moment Lenny saw the message, she didn’t hesitate. She grabbed her keys and rushed to the spot. Upon arrival, her heart sank. What she found were two small, abandoned puppies in terrible condition—covered in fleas and suffering from skin infections. Despite their rough appearance, something caught her eye—their little tails were wagging. It was a sign of hope. Lenny knew these pups were ready to be saved.
As she gently approached the fallen tree, the two puppies looked at her with innocent eyes, the kind only dogs can give. Without hesitation, Lenny scooped them up in her arms and carried them to her car. Once inside, the puppies, whom she named Bugg and Doc, started sobbing with relief and joy, as if they knew they had finally been rescued.
The emotional moment brought tears to Lenny’s eyes. Right then and there, she made a promise to herself—she would do everything in her power to help these little ones recover.
Back at Lenny’s house, Bugg and Doc felt at home immediately. “They seemed so relieved,” Lenny recalled. “I put them in the air conditioning, and they just flopped onto the seat, ready to sleep.” After a much-needed rest, Lenny knew what had to be done next.
“The first thing I did was give them an oatmeal bath to soothe their itching,” Lenny said. The puppies were covered in fleas and couldn’t stop scratching. To her relief, they seemed to enjoy the bath, and it wasn’t long before they started looking healthier and more comfortable.
Next, Lenny took the pups to the vet, worried about what the diagnosis might be. Fortunately, the vet reassured her—their condition wasn’t contagious, and with antibiotics and regular oatmeal baths, they would recover quickly.
And recover they did! Within weeks, Bugg and Doc showed incredible progress. Their skin infections healed, their fur grew back, and they transformed into adorable little pups full of energy and life. Lenny could hardly believe the difference. They had come such a long way in such a short time.
But soon, it was time for Bugg and Doc to move on to the next chapter of their lives. One morning, Lenny received an excited text: “Oh my gosh! Please tell me you still have them.” The message was from a woman named Abby, who had fallen in love with the puppies from afar. Abby and her family drove all the way from Massachusetts to Texas in a van just to pick them up.
When they arrived at the campground where Lenny and the pups were waiting, Lenny saw their truck packed full of toys for the puppies. She smiled, instantly knowing, “These are your dogs.”
Bugg and Doc, now renamed Bugz and Bear, embarked on a long journey to their new home and their new lives. Even though they were going far away, they would always hold a special place in Lenny’s heart. To her, they would forever be the tiny, curled-up puppies that brought joy and purpose to her life.
