Stray Dog Finds Love After Months of Living Outside a Texas Hotel

In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, a stray dog mysteriously appeared in the parking lot of a Hyatt hotel in Texas. No one knew where he had come from, but what began as a fleeting encounter soon turned into a nightly routine.

The dog showed up at the hotel every evening, capturing the hearts of the staff and guests. They didn’t just give him scraps—they spoiled him with gourmet meals, bringing back treats like steak, pork chops, and fajitas from local restaurants.

“They were going above and beyond,” said Jodi Leslie, director of community outreach at Three Little Pitties Rescue.

One day, a guest realized the dog didn’t belong to anyone and shared his story on Facebook. This caught the attention of Three Little Pitties Rescue, who learned the dog had been living in the parking lot for over two months. They decided to step in and help.

The rescue team successfully trapped him and placed him with a staff member for fostering. However, the dog, unused to human companionship, escaped after just one night.

“He was gone for three days,” Leslie said. “We couldn’t find him anywhere.”

Miraculously, he reappeared in the Hyatt parking lot—8 miles away from where he had been staying. His rescuers were amazed by his determination to return to the place where he had found kindness.

This time, professional trappers stepped in, and they managed to catch him again. Leslie took him in as a foster and named him Hyatt in honor of the hotel that had become his sanctuary.

Initially, Hyatt was nervous and unsure of his new surroundings. “I don’t think he’d ever experienced human love or even laid on a couch,” Leslie said.

Over the next two months, Hyatt began to blossom under Leslie’s care. Her other dogs played a vital role in helping him adjust to his new life.

“The pack has been teaching him how to be a dog,” Leslie shared. “He follows them in and out of the house, learning by watching them.”

Slowly but surely, Hyatt started to trust. He now feels comfortable lounging on the couch, snuggling in bed, and seeking affection from Leslie. Although still shy, his progress has been remarkable.

While Leslie adores fostering Hyatt, Three Little Pitties Rescue is searching for a permanent home for him. Hyatt would thrive with patient adopters and in a home with other dogs to help him continue building confidence.

This brave and resilient dog has come a long way. Now all he needs is a loving family to call his own—a happy ending for the dog who once called a parking lot home.
