The simple act of kindness brought joy to everyone involved ❤️
Chloe Ellies knew her rescue husky, Levi, loved the snow. After spending her lunch break playing fetch with him, she had to head back inside for a Zoom meeting. But Levi wasn’t ready to leave the winter wonderland behind. He sat by the fence, staring wistfully into the distance.
“He was staring into the abyss … longing for a friend,” Ellies told
Then, during her meeting, something caught Ellies' eye through the window. Levi’s mood had shifted.
A Surprise Playmate
“I saw him dart across the backyard in full zoomie mode, so I knew something was exciting him,” Ellies said. She paused her meeting to take a look.
To her delight, she saw her neighbor, a young boy, standing by the fence petting Levi.
“Cute, I thought,” Ellies recalled, returning to her meeting.
Moments later, Levi’s excitement grew, and when Ellies glanced outside again, the boy had hopped into the yard to join him.
Snowy Shenanigans
Ellies wasn’t surprised to see the boy playing with Levi—they shared the yard since they lived in the same duplex. What she didn’t expect was how much fun the pair would have together.
“My neighbor was all bundled up in his snowsuit, throwing snowballs for Levi, petting him, and running around the yard,” Ellies said. “I had to interrupt my meeting because I couldn’t stop giggling.”
Levi was clearly overjoyed, wagging his tail and even giving kisses—an extremely rare occurrence for the reserved husky. “He literally only gives about five kisses a year,” Ellies said. “You could see him smiling.”
The impromptu playdate lasted about 20 minutes, but a few days later, Levi got another snowy surprise.
A Double Playdate
This time, Ellies was dog-sitting another pup named Arlo, and the young neighbor brought along a friend. The yard was soon filled with two exuberant dogs and two equally excited kids, all frolicking in the snow together.
“The dogs were so hyper, and the boys were fueling their excitement by throwing snowballs and running around,” Ellies said.
Ellies stepped outside to supervise but quickly realized she was underdressed in shorts and slippers. She stayed anyway, not wanting to miss the joy unfolding in front of her.
“It was so much fun to witness all that happiness exploding out of the dogs and kids,” she said.
A Sweet Bond
Ellies captured videos of both playdates and shared them on Instagram. The footage shows Levi, a rescue husky who once longed for a friend, now thriving in the snowy backyard with his new human buddies.
“In a world full of iPad kids, my neighbor gets out there in his snowsuit for some good old-fashioned fun,” Ellies said. “And Levi finally has someone who loves the snow as much as he does.”
The heartwarming connection between Levi and his neighbor proves that sometimes, the simplest gestures—like playing in the snow—can mean the world.
