In a heartwarming tale of resilience and hope, Pumpkin, a pregnant dog, found herself in need of rescue once again after becoming trapped beneath a shed at the Hawkins County Humane Society. Having previously escaped a life on the streets, this sweet mother-to-be crawled under the storage house through a narrow opening, unknowingly getting stuck just out of sight of the rescue crew.
Kennedy Margetjak, a dedicated shelter employee, recounted the moment she discovered Pumpkin. "I opened the back door and called for her, and suddenly, her little head popped out from underneath!" she said. “But even when I offered her treats, she wouldn’t budge. That’s when I knew something was seriously wrong.” As she approached, Kennedy realized Pumpkin's expectant body was wedged beneath the shed, desperately trying to free herself but unable to move.
The staff’s initial attempts to pull Pumpkin to safety were in vain, as her heavy belly made it impossible for her to budge. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, they called in Joey Arnold, the handyman at the shelter, who skillfully used a jack to gently lift the shed enough for Pumpkin to escape. As she emerged into the sunlight, the relief was palpable, and everyone breathed a sigh of gratitude that she was unharmed.
Now, the shelter's top priority is to find Pumpkin a loving home where she can safely welcome her puppies into the world. Thankfully, she is currently in caring hands, receiving the love and attention she so deeply deserves. With her brave spirit and the support of her rescuers, Pumpkin’s journey to a brighter future is just beginning, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for this remarkable mother.
