Is life truly fair? A story worth reflecting on

Moose is living proof that shelter dogs are anything but bad! With a bullet lodged in her lung and a heartbreaking past, this sweet Pittie had only one desire: to be everyone’s best friend.

Tragically, Moose was on the brink of losing her chance at life. Labeled as “behavioral euthanasia” simply for barking at another dog, she was scheduled to be put down. But fate had other plans. Just one day before her execution, Micky stumbled across Moose's story and knew she had to act fast.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Micky applied to adopt Moose, and the clock was ticking. A mere extra kennel had delayed Moose’s tragic fate, allowing her life to be saved. In a whirlwind of hope, Moose was placed on a bus from Houston, Texas, and five days later, she arrived in Virginia to meet her new savior.

The reality of Moose’s past was heart-wrenching. “It’s really sad because the only thing noted in her records was that she barked at another dog,” Micky shared with GeoBeats Animals. Yet, the truth was even darker: Moose had endured unimaginable pain—shot and left with a bullet in her lung, treated for heartworms, and having previously undergone an abortion.

Despite her traumatic first year of life, Micky was determined to help Moose build a brighter future. “I’m shocked that this dog, considering how terrible her first year of life was, wants to be everyone’s best friend,” she said, marveling at Moose’s resilience.

While Micky anticipated that Moose would require extensive training and patience, she quickly discovered that this lovable pup was a breath of fresh air. Moose was impeccably house-trained and already knew the basic commands, suggesting she had a loving owner in her past. Far from the behavior of a dog deemed unadoptable, Moose exhibited a sweet temperament that endeared her to Micky instantly.

Moose adored both people and other dogs, and she learned quickly. Micky, inspired by her pup’s eagerness to please, decided to train her as a therapy dog. “Despite everything, she has been the best girl ever and is learning more each day. She has come so far and was the best thing that could have happened to me,” Micky beamed.

As someone with mobility issues, Micky needed a certified therapy dog, and Moose was the perfect candidate. With an uncanny intuition, Moose seemed to know when Micky needed her most. “Usually, she sleeps by my legs, but if I’m having a flare and really don’t feel good, she’ll sleep by my head,” Micky explained, highlighting the incredible bond they shared.

Now, Moose is on her way to earning her OFA certificates, and Micky is confident that this unique shelter girl will blossom into a remarkable therapy dog. For nearly a year and a half, Moose has been a cherished family member, and her bond with Micky has only grown stronger.

Together, this dynamic duo embarks on beautiful adventures every day, proving that love, resilience, and second chances can create the most heartwarming stories. Moose’s journey from the brink of death to a loving home serves as a powerful reminder of the incredible transformations that can happen when a dog is given the chance to shine.
