Meet Mert Akok, a compassionate Turkish man whose life’s mission is to rescue and care for animals in need. His dedication goes beyond what many can imagine, making him a true hero for the voiceless.

Mert has created a private sanctuary, a farm, solely for the purpose of providing a safe haven for rescued stray animals. His sanctuary is home to over twenty dogs, as well as cats, donkeys, goats, and birds, all of whom were once neglected, abandoned, or abused.

What sets Mert apart is his hands-on approach. He doesn't just give these animals a place to live; he dedicates time every day to personally care for them. Whether they are sick, elderly, or disabled, Mert ensures they receive the best possible care, love, and attention. His daily routine revolves around checking in on each animal, making sure their needs are met with the utmost compassion.

Despite being a successful businessman running a consulting firm, Mert always finds time in his busy schedule to rescue and support homeless animals. For him, this is more than a hobby—it’s a calling. He knows that many animals, particularly domestic ones, cannot survive on their own in the wild, and he refuses to turn a blind eye to their plight.

Mert’s journey began with rescuing dogs from forests and junkyards. When his rescued group of dogs grew, he realized he needed more space, so he moved them to a farm in a nearby village. There, his rescue efforts expanded to include other animals like cats, horses, and birds.

“I have around 10 to 20 dogs on my farm,” Mert explains. “I save them from the wilderness, woods, and junkyards outside the city. I’m always looking for homes for them, but I know I will keep some with me forever, especially the sick and elderly ones that no one wants to adopt.”

Mert’s farm has grown into a refuge for all kinds of animals, each with their own heartbreaking stories. “I recently adopted a young donkey, and now I have 46 seagulls with disabilities, a blind horse, three geese with a long history, and three cats. At the moment, I have 23 dogs, most of them old or disabled,” he shares.

Mert Akok’s unwavering commitment to the animals under his care is a testament to the power of compassion. His farm, filled with creatures who once had no hope, is now a place of healing and love—a true sanctuary.
