In May, a sweet dog named Sky was heartbreakingly surrendered by her family and separated from her bonded littermate. Sky, a beautiful white dog who happens to be deaf, found herself all alone in a shelter, with little hope for the future.
But then, Elli Frank noticed her. Elli, a passionate animal lover, wasn’t planning on fostering another dog, especially with three dogs already at home. However, when she saw Sky, she couldn’t resist the urge to help. Sky reminded her so much of her own beloved deaf dog, Jasmyne, that Elli knew she had to step in.
There was just one challenge: Jasmyne, though sweet, can sometimes get scared and reactive around unfamiliar dogs. For this reason, Elli decided to keep Sky separate from her other pets, setting her up in a beautifully restored barn on her property for now.
During the day, Elli and Sky spend quality time together, enjoying adventures and bonding.
“We love going on hikes along the local trails,” Elli shared. “Sky absolutely adores the pond—she’s fascinated by the frogs and always tries to catch them, getting as muddy as she possibly can in the process.”
But when the sun sets, Elli has to return Sky to her temporary home in the barn, which breaks her heart. The longing to cuddle up with Sky at night is hard to ignore.
“It’s tough for me to leave her there,” Elli admitted.
Every morning, Elli heads into the barn to wake Sky, who, being deaf, doesn’t always notice when Elli enters the room. Elli always greets her with a soft touch to wake her gently.
“Without fail, Sky lights up when she sees me. She’s so excited every single time,” Elli said.
Sky's infectious joy extends beyond just her bond with Elli. She wags her tail with enthusiasm when she meets anyone new, making friends instantly.
It’s clear that Elli loves Sky deeply. But with her hands full caring for her other three dogs, it’s not possible for Sky to stay in the barn forever. Sky deserves a home where she can be a constant companion, and so Elli is helping her search for a forever family.
Sky’s perfect family will be patient and dedicated, ready to nurture her as she continues to learn and grow. Mr. Bones & Co., the nonprofit managing her adoption, is committed to setting her new family up with a top-tier trainer who specializes in deaf dogs.
Elli is confident that Sky will bring joy wherever she goes.
"Sky will keep you laughing all day long," Elli shared on Instagram. "She’s hilarious, goofy, loving, and incredibly cuddly. She loves being with people but is also perfectly content hanging out by herself."
Sky is ready for a new chapter—a forever home full of love, laughter, and endless adventures.
