One day, a Pennsylvania resident stumbled upon a strange sight on their doorstep—a lone cardboard box with a handwritten message on the side: “Free puppy.” Curiosity piqued, they carefully opened the box and found themselves face-to-face with a tiny, 8-week-old white puppy, trembling inside.
Shocked, the resident quickly contacted authorities. Animal control officers soon arrived and took the puppy to their shelter. The sweet pup didn’t stay long, though. She was soon transferred to East Coast Bulldog Rescue, where director Sara Hornbeck was equally stunned by the little dog’s condition.
“When we picked her up from the kennel, we couldn’t believe how sweet and affectionate she was,” Hornbeck said. “Despite being abandoned like trash, she was in surprisingly good shape.”
The rescue team immediately fell in love with the puppy, naming her Roxy. When they shared her story on social media, it wasn’t long before Roxy captured the hearts of countless followers.
“She won over our online community so quickly,” Hornbeck shared. “People were touched by her story, but one family in particular saw her and knew she was the one.”
Roxy’s story reached the perfect match—a family who had recently lost their beloved dog, Junie Bug, and were looking for a way to heal their broken hearts.
“A family member of a previous adopter fell in love with Roxy and felt she was meant to help them honor Junie Bug,” Hornbeck said.
Now safe and sound with her new family, Roxy has a bright future filled with love, loyalty, and a forever home where she’ll never have to worry about being abandoned again.
