Carolina's heart was untroubled the first time she spotted a black-and-tan dog peacefully sleeping on the sidewalk during her daily commute. The small pup, curled up like a little ball, rested beside a modest home in her Cuautitlan, Mexico, neighborhood, and Carolina assumed she was simply napping at her own front door.
“I thought she belonged there, so I went home without a second thought,” Carolina later shared in a heartfelt letter to local rescues. However, as the days passed and she continued her routine, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss. Each time she walked by, there she was, nestled in the same spot, seemingly alone.
Concern began to blossom in Carolina’s heart. She started packing dog food for her commute, stopping to feed the pup every time she passed. With each feeding, Carolina knocked on the door of the house behind her, but her efforts were met with silence.
“I knocked on the door three days in a row, but no one answered—only a window was open,” Carolina recalled. “So, I told her, ‘I’m going to help you.’”
After the third failed attempt to connect with the homeowners, Carolina made a decision that would change both their lives. She gently scooped up the little dog, whom she named Baguira, cradling her in her arms, and drove straight to the vet.
There, Baguira received the care she desperately needed—she was spayed, vaccinated, and treated for parasites. As the sweet pup healed at the clinic, Carolina continued her quest to discover Baguira’s origins.
“I returned to the house where I found her, and this time, they opened the door,” Carolina wrote, her heart heavy with anticipation.
To her dismay, the girl at the door recognized Baguira but coldly denied any responsibility for her. “I don’t want her,” the girl said, leaving Carolina with a choice she couldn't bear to make.
“I didn’t have it in me to leave her there, unwanted and exposed to an impending rainstorm,” Carolina wrote. “She’s a loyal puppy…”
Ultimately, Carolina decided to take Baguira home, but she knew she couldn’t keep her long-term. Driven by love, she wrote a detailed letter about Baguira’s story and sent it to every rescue in the area, hoping to find her a forever home.
When Beatriz Ordaz, a passionate local rescuer, came across Carolina’s letter, her heart shattered. She recognized the sweet dog but was unaware that Baguira had been abandoned.
“She refused to leave the door,” Ordaz told Loveanimalsclub. “My son wanted to bring her home, but I already had a foster dog and couldn’t take in another.”
Though Ordaz couldn’t offer Baguira a permanent home herself, she was determined to help Carolina find the perfect match for the lovable pup. Together, they embarked on a mission to find a loving family for Baguira.
For now, Baguira is thriving at Carolina’s house, surrounded by love and care, but she dreams of a home where she can truly flourish—a place with a big yard to run freely and a cozy bed nestled next to her person’s couch.
“Her perfect home would be one where she can enjoy long walks and, above all, one filled with love,” Carolina shared.
Baguira patiently awaits her forever home, soaking up every ounce of affection from the kind-hearted woman who refused to leave her behind. “Baguira has so much love to give,” Carolina expressed, her heart full of hope for the future.
