A typical day on the golf course is often filled with stunning views, peaceful surroundings, and friendly competition. But for one group of golfers in Garland, Texas, what began as a calm outing turned into a heart-pounding rescue mission to save a lost dog in desperate need of help.

The unexpected drama unfolded at Garland’s Fire Wheel Golf Course when visitors spotted a stranded pup near Rowlett Creek. The poor dog was trapped, surrounded by water and a steep rock wall, with no way to escape.

Without hesitation, the Good Samaritans contacted Garland Animal Services (GAS), who quickly teamed up with the Garland Fire Department (GFD) and rushed to the scene.

“Rescue 8 was called out to help Animal Control reach a dog stranded on the bank of the creek at Fire Wheel Golf Course,” the GFD shared on Facebook, along with a video of the dramatic rescue.

One brave firefighter waded into the creek and approached the terrified dog, hoping to gently guide him into the water. But when the pup refused to move, the firefighter made the bold decision to scoop him up in his arms and carry him back to safety.

To everyone’s relief, the dog was wearing a collar with a tag that had his owner’s contact information. They quickly reached out to his owner, Joan Landry, and discovered the heart-wrenching backstory behind this lost pup.

“This is my dog, Bubba,” Landry shared in a Facebook comment. “We’ve been searching for him for over two days!!”

While the GFD and GAS teams were busy rescuing Bubba, his entire community in Sachse, a town six miles away, had been frantically searching for him. Neighbors had been scouring the streets, hoping to spot the beloved dog.

“I was crying for two days, walking the neighborhood, and my neighbors were watching for him, too!” Landry wrote.

As it turned out, Bubba had escaped through an open gate at home days earlier. When Landry finally got the call from GAS that Bubba had been found, she couldn’t believe where he had ended up.

“I’m completely shocked,” Landry told her local news, WFAA, in a YouTube interview. “The fact that he was by the creek is still a mystery. Did he jump in for a swim because it was a hot day?”

Even though Bubba was usually afraid of water, somehow, he had wound up by the creek. Regardless of how he got there, Landry was just overjoyed to reunite with her dog. When she arrived at the animal shelter to pick him up, Bubba’s tail was wagging, and he was just as thrilled to be back with his mom.
