Devoted Dog Uses Gentle Touch to Wake Her Deaf Brother

In 2021, Sierra and her husband Josh, who prefer to keep their last name private, adopted Levi, a deaf Australian shepherd. From the moment Levi stepped into their home, they knew he was something extraordinary.

“He’s an energetic and loving dog who brings so much joy into our lives,” Sierra and Josh shared.

Despite their deep bond with Levi, the couple decided he might benefit from a friend. A few months later, they welcomed Maisy, an affectionate and intuitive golden retriever, into their family.

“Maisy’s intuition has made her the perfect companion for Levi,” the couple explained.

Initially, Levi took on the role of big brother to the playful puppy Maisy. However, as Maisy grew older, their roles began to shift.

“Now Maisy instinctively cares for Levi,” they said. “She’s like a mama bear to him but still looks up to him and follows his lead.”

Although Levi is deaf and Maisy is not, they have developed their own unique way of communicating.

One evening, Sierra and Josh observed a touching example of their bond. After returning from a night out, they found Levi sleeping soundly. To gently alert him to their presence without startling him, Maisy tapped his bed with her paw.

At first, Sierra and Josh weren’t sure if this was a one-time occurrence, but over the past two years, Maisy has consistently woken Levi in this gentle manner. Most of the time, however, the two pups are so inseparable that Maisy rarely needs to wake Levi up—often they simply “fall asleep cuddling with each other,” as Sierra and Josh described.

The heartwarming interactions between Levi and Maisy bring immense joy and gratitude to Sierra and Josh.

“Their bond is a beautiful reminder of the love and care that animals can offer each other, and it has deeply touched our hearts,” they said.
